Neurofeedback was discovered back in the 1960’s when scientists realized that brain activity could be seen and what they saw correlated to how we felt and behaved. Additionally, they found that brain activity could be retrained or conditioned to change how people felt. Neurofeedback is a form of Biofeedback and can also be called EEG Biofeedback we can see the brain activity with an electroenchephalogram (EEG). We take those readings and compare them to a normative database of over 800 people to see how the brain is functioning. When the brain is functioning well it looks regulated and when it is not it looks dysregulated or chaotic. Years of research shows that dysregulation and specific symptoms correlate, giving us a map of where to look in the brain when a certain symptom is reported. So if you say you are feeling anxious we look at the areas known to deal with anxiety, etc.
